Department Of Education: The DOE Hawaii Website is a good place to start when looking for information about public schools on Oahu. http://doe.k12.hi.us. The Elementary school that serves MCBH is Mokapu Elementary, and you can information about Mokapu at http://mokapu.k12.hi.us, or call them at (808)254-7964. Other Area schools can be found when looking at the website under Complex Areas and choosing Kailua-Kalaheo Complex. Most of the schools that are close to the base are in the Kalaheo Complex (including Kailua Intermediate for middle school, and Kalaheo Highs School for base high school aged students.) Children from base do often attend other area schools, but in order to do so must obtain a Geographical Exception form from their home school and have it processed by the school they wish to attend, and may have to provide their own transportation to and from school. On Oahu Elementary schools run from Pre-K (Children who will be 5 between August 2 and December 31st of the year they begin school) or Kindergarten (Children who have already reached 5 by August 2nd of that year) through 6th grade. Intermediate School serves grades 7 and 8, and high school serves grade 9-12. Currently our school year begins in Early August and runs through the first week in June.
